This is really bad for people like us who are desperately waiting for nation wide launch of 3G in India. The Finance Ministry In India has asked the Telecom Department to double the minimum bid price to get 3G spectrum in India. New amount will stand for 40 billion rupees($840 million).
We don’t know the reason behind it or we are not supposed to know, but all said and done, this will only delay the 3G release date in India which was apparently set for 30 Jan.
Lets wait and watch what happens and hope for best.

So you bought unlocked iPhone and wondering how to get the Airtel GPRS/Edge plan activated on iPhone.
Here are the steps to get the task done:
1. Call up the Airtel Customer Care on 121, ask them about the GPRS plans they are offering, like we are using the Mobile Office plan, which offers unlimited browsing and downloading for 20Rs per day. So, pick up your plan and tell them to activate for you.
2. In iPhone go to Settings >> General >> Network >> EDGE
and enter
APN: Airtelgprs.com
Username: Leave it blank
Password: Leave it blank
Thats it, now just wait to get the plan activated and you are good to go, no more setting are required

Come on this is a bad consumer experience, well we all know they can’t just sell the iPhone at the price being set in US, but still atleast some price cuts should be made by Airtel and Vodafone. At&t in US is doing all it can to attract users towards iPhone by making regular price cuts and they will sell new refurbished iPhone for a price of $150, but in India prices are just stagnant since iPhone launch in India.
Seems like both Airtel and Vodafone has given up on iPhone and moved, that is why its even hard to see any advertising at all about iPhone in India.
Is anyone listening?

Cnet carried out a article which mentions about the under par performance of iPhone sales in India. iPhone is having rocking sales around the world, competing with BlackBerry head to head in whole world, but here in India, it remains in the hands of few. iPhone comes with a 1 year contract with Airtel or Vodafone and mobile users in India are not used to be bounded to one network only. But this flaw could have been overlooked, if the iPhone prices weren’t so insanely huge.
Both the factors spelled doom on the iPhone sales in India. We hope, Apple can think of slashing iPhone prices in India, like they did in US. Ofcourse if they want iPhone to make a mark in India, for the time being Apple is basking in the glory of iPhone sales success story in other parts of world, and India market doesn’t seem to be on their radar at all.

In California, there is a Inn which is dubbing itself the world’s first “iPhone hotel”. So, when guest check in the Malibu Beach Inn, they are asked if they have a iPhone or iPod Touch, if they own either one of them, then hotel staff will load a app called “Hotel Evolution” into your iPhone(If you don’t then a 16gb iPod Touch is given to the guests preloaded application to use during their stay).

So when a guests punches in his/her room number with their specific security code, they get all access to the hotel services like order room service, setting up a wake up call, dry cleaning, extra blankets and much more.
This is simply great, so can we expect such development in India, any hotel listening???
