So you bought unlocked iPhone and wondering how to get the Airtel GPRS/Edge plan activated on iPhone.
Here are the steps to get the task done:
1. Call up the Airtel Customer Care on 121, ask them about the GPRS plans they are offering, like we are using the Mobile Office plan, which offers unlimited browsing and downloading for 20Rs per day. So, pick up your plan and tell them to activate for you.
2. In iPhone go to Settings >> General >> Network >> EDGE
and enter
APN: Airtelgprs.com
Username: Leave it blank
Password: Leave it blank
Thats it, now just wait to get the plan activated and you are good to go, no more setting are required

Come on this is a bad consumer experience, well we all know they can’t just sell the iPhone at the price being set in US, but still atleast some price cuts should be made by Airtel and Vodafone. At&t in US is doing all it can to attract users towards iPhone by making regular price cuts and they will sell new refurbished iPhone for a price of $150, but in India prices are just stagnant since iPhone launch in India.
Seems like both Airtel and Vodafone has given up on iPhone and moved, that is why its even hard to see any advertising at all about iPhone in India.
Is anyone listening?
Just a heads up for all in India who are looking forward for buying iPhone on EMI. Last date of EMI offers from both Airtel And Vodafone is ending on NOV 30 2008. What will happen after that, whether new plans will be designed or all old plans will be continued, we will keep you posted.

In California, there is a Inn which is dubbing itself the world’s first “iPhone hotel”. So, when guest check in the Malibu Beach Inn, they are asked if they have a iPhone or iPod Touch, if they own either one of them, then hotel staff will load a app called “Hotel Evolution” into your iPhone(If you don’t then a 16gb iPod Touch is given to the guests preloaded application to use during their stay).

So when a guests punches in his/her room number with their specific security code, they get all access to the hotel services like order room service, setting up a wake up call, dry cleaning, extra blankets and much more.
This is simply great, so can we expect such development in India, any hotel listening???

For those who are already thinking of unlocking their Airtel iPhone3G, in order to use it other networks then beware. Techies at Airtel are claiming that even the most deadly hackers on the planet won’t be able to crack the codes that support the iPhone’s Airtel applications with rival company SIMs.
And, even if a hacker manages to make voice calls from an Airtel iPhone using the SIM of a rival GSM operator, he would be denied access to both exclusive icons – ‘Airtel Live’ and ‘Airtel Apps’– which are gateways to the full spectrum of Airtel applications built into the iconic gizmo.
Airtel this is just plain old news, every one knows that if they unlock their iPhone, it eventually looses features given by the provider. And on the prices you are selling it, you won’t find many customers to worry about anyhow.

Following the footsteps of Vodafone, Airtel was quick to put up the Data plans for iPhone on their website. Plans are same for new as well as existing customers of iPhone. However there is confusion, at first they say that you will get 500MB/Month download free, then in the Term and Conditions they say only Free 50MB/Month Download, leaving all confused. Click the picture to see the details:

Update : Airtel corrects its Dataplans Mistake, Confirms Free 500MB/Month Download.
