Instead of waiting to go home to check the internet for ratings and reviews, you can now get all of this information right there on the spot. Just take out your phone, go to Google.com in your browser, and try out Google Product Search for mobile. It was back in MWC 2009 when google demoed a offline gmail application and now they have finally released all with a upgrade to the Gmail Web App.

gmail_mobile

Two major features to look out for are :

Offline Mailing

With this feature enabled, whenever you connect to Gmail the mails gets cached/stored in iPhone memory. So, even though there is not internet connection/network reception on iPhone, you can always go ahead and read the emails and compose mails offline. And as soon iPhone finds a healthy reception, its sync all offline content with the online Gmail account. So, lost of time at all :-) .

Floating Menus

Another feature which is worth noticing is floating menus, which will let you perform actions on many items at once. Suppose you want to archive some mails, all you have to do is select the option from the mail and mark the respective mails.
with which you can perform actions archiving

From Gmail blog :

Now, when you go to gmail.com from your iPhone or Android browser, archiving email is quicker because it doesn’t require a response from a remote server. Instead, we cache mail on the device itself (using database storage on the iPhone and a device-local mobile Gears database on Android-powered phones). Actions like archiving or starring messages are first applied to this cache and then sent to Gmail servers in the background whenever a network connection is available. You only have to wait for a response from the server when you’re requesting an uncached message or list of messages. As a result, you can start-up Gmail even if you’re on a slow connection. You can even compose mail and open recently read messages while offline.

Here is the updated Gmail webapp in action :

To experience the new web app, just open the gmail.com in your safari browser and let the fun begin :-) .

iPhone owners who are using the Mobile Me services, now will be able to share their data/files using MobileMe iDisk.

From Apple:

We’re pleased to announce that you can now use your MobileMe iDisk to share files with others simply and easily. Instead of attaching a large document to an email and hoping it’s not too big to be received, you can place the file in your iDisk and use the new Share File command in the iDisk web app. It lets you send your friends, family, or colleagues a link they can click to download the file directly. You can password protect the link if you choose to and even set how long it will be available.

The new year presents from Google just keep on coming. New addition on the list of features provided by google is calendar and contacts sync to your iPhone, windows and symbian based mobiles phones.

What it means is that now you can sync Google Calendar and Gmail contacts with the calendar and contact application in your phone wirelessly.

For iPhone and Windows Mobile devices, Google Sync allows you to get your Gmail contacts and Google Calendar events onto your phone. Sync uses push technology, which means that any changes you make to your calendar or contacts from the browser or phone will be reflected on your device within minutes. For phones that support SyncML, the tool will allow you to get your Gmail contacts onto your phone. For all of these devices, synchronization happens automatically over the air, without having to manually sync your phone. The connection is always on, which means your information is always up-to-date, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.

To Sync on iPhone you have to open m.google.com/sync from your safari browser and follow the steps.

Here is video from Google about the Sync feature :
