iPhone Prices In India May Fall By Atleast Rs 5000
After Vodafone decreased iPhone Prices by Rs 2000, Rediff Money claimed today that there is another price decrease expected from directly from Apple (about 15% decrease from the original price), which means the new prices will be applicable for both Airtel and Vodafone. The reason behind is mentioned as the low sales of iPhone throughout the country, which amounts to only 5000 units sold since the launch on 22Aug.

Well.. what do you expect Apple/Vodafone/Airtel… Of course no one is going to buy your SIM locked iphones with such exorbitant rates!!
One can easily get a Factory unlocked iphones at the same rate from anywhere outside of India… to be precise… from Hong Kong or Singapore. Why the hell would I but a SIM locked iphone?!
I just called for an iphone 4 from Singapore for 31,000 INR (16GB). Honk Kong is even cheaper than Singapore.
I’m sure the iphone 4 rates in India are going to be above 45,000 INR (16GB).
The sales will never go up unless Vodafone/Airtel start some kinda EMI based sales or contract based sales like in every other country where the iphone is locked to a carrier, but their handset cost is a mere 300 USD (15,000 INR approx). They even have options of upgrading their iphones the next year at a subsided rate (150-200 USD approx) & they also get to keep their previously purchased iphones.
On the whole if you see, the US residents pay around 2000-2500 USD during their 18 month contract, but it definitely is worth the money as you don’t have to pay an exorbitant amount (like in India) in one shot for your handset!
